A short 1½ miles north of East Hope, at a pullout on the west side of Highway 200 is this Idaho Historical Society Marker marking the geological site of Lake Pend Oreille.

The marker tells us that
Lake Pend Oreille is the remnant of
Lake Missoula which once was a huge lake dammed by glacial ice. Huge flows caused by the lake's breaking through ice dams carved many large features in the land, including Lake Pend Oreille.
