Located in front of Crater High School gymnasium is a Native American relief of most likely a killer whale along with small salmon surrounding it in a circle. This type of Native American art is very popular in the Pacific Northwest but less so in Southern Oregon. This Native American style of art originated in Canada and Washington state and its iconic style of design appear on totem poles, body tattoos, carved boats, paintings, illustrations and as relief work like what appears on this sidewalk.
Unfortunately, the weather and elements have caused pieces of the work to chip off. I could not find any info on who created it and when it was created. FYI, Crater High School are known as the 'Comets', so this design of a whale is not the school mascot.
