CAMPAIGN FOR THE
TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY
THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY,
CONSIDERED THE MOST AMBITIOUS FUND-RAISING EFFORT
UNDERTAKEN BY AN ORGANIZATION IN ARKANSAS, SPANNED
3/1/1998 - 6/30/2005. THE $500 MILLION CAMPAIGN'S
OBJECTIVE WAS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIP AND
FACULTY ENDOWMENTS, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS, PROGRAM
SUPPORT AND ANNUAL GIVING. THE GOAL WAS REACHED,
THEN RAISED TO $900 MILLION. THAT GOAL WAS ATTAINED
AND RAISED TO $1 BILLION, PLACING THE UNIVERSITY AMONG
24 OTHER INSTITUTIONS IN AMERICA ACTIVELY ENGAGED
IN SUCH DRIVES. THE CAMPAIGN FINISHED BY RAISING
MORE THAN $1 BILLION, SIGNIFICANTLY AUGMENTING
THE INSTITUTION'S ENDOWMENT. COMMEMORATING THE
CAMPAIGN'S TRANSFORMATIONAL IMPACT AND SYMBOLIZING
THAT THE UNIVERSITY'S "TIME HAS COME", THE CAMPAIGN
STEERING COMMITTEE GAVE GIFTS TO ADD A CLOCK TO
OLD MAIN'S SOUTH TOWER, A PART OF THE STRUCTURE'S
ORIGINAL DESIGN, FINALLY REALIZED 130 YEARS LATER.
