From Libby to Eureka we took the back way, up the west side of Kookanusa Lake on Highway 508. There was still snow on the road as well as trees and rocks in many places. There were also some rock climbers, though not all over the road.

At mile marker 38 we noticed some rock climbers doing their thing right beside the road. Naturally, we had to stop and have a chat. We know nothing about rock climbing (acrophobia and such, after all), so they filled us in on where we were (the Sunburst Area), what they were doing and how they were doing it.

Sunburst is, by all accounts, not terribly difficult, but is a nice, vertical climb of about 65 feet, at most. Actually, the average height is noted by the climbers as being about 65 feet, but it sure looked like a lot more to us. There are five separate routes, rated by those who've climbed at 5.10 to 5.9 (whatever that means).

For parking, park across the road just to the south west. Non climbers can watch from GZ.
