První zmínky o farním kostele v Nových Hradech pochází z roku 1284. Soucasná gotická podoba kostela pochází z roku 1590 kdy byl kostel znovu obnoven po devastaci behem husitských válek. V roce 1620 byla vež zasažena bleskem a behem rekonstrukce byla navýšena o jedno patro a zakoncena renesancní lucernou. V roce 1726 dostala vež barokní cibulovitou bán.

The first references to parish church in Nové Hrady dates back to 1284. Present Gothic church dates from 1590 when it was restored after the devastation during the Hussite wars. In 1620 the tower was struck by lightning and during a renovation was increased by one floor and finished by Renaissance lantern. In 1726 the tower was given a Baroque onion cupola.
