První písemná zmínka o meste pochází z roku 1260, kdy se píše o cloveku jménem Hojer von Schweinitz, Ojír ze Svin z rodu Vítkovcu. V roce 1481 Sviny získaly od krále Vladislava Jagellonského právo porádat dvakrát za rok trhy a mestecko získává prídomek Trhové.

The first written record of the town dates from 1260 when is written about a man named Hojer von Schweinitz, Ojír of Svin of Vítkovci family. In 1481 Sviny received from King Vladislav Jagiello right to hold markets twice a year and the town gets first patr of the name - "Trhové".
