County of Capsule: Fayette County.
Location of Capsule: 4th St. & Gallatin St., Vandalia.

This time capsule is not only on the corner of 4th & Gallatin, but is on the corner of the Vandalia State House, the Third State Capitol of Illinois. Next stop for the State Legislature is Springfield, but from Dec. 3, 1836 thru July 4, 1839, it was the capitol of Illinois. Lincoln served here, Stephen Douglas served here.
Also on this corner is the Madonna of the Trails Statue. Yes, this is the National Road.
A marker to the Cumberland Road is also here. This you see is the official western terminus of the original National Road.
