Located near the front entrance to Crater High School's main office is a time capsule with a bronze plaque monumented into a brick wall and directly above a cornerstone that was laid on October 1, 1950, the year the school was constructed. The plaque reads:

GRAND MASTER MASON OF OREGON
OCTOBER 1, 2000
TO BE OPENED 2050
I hope to be alive when this time capsule is opened, I'll be 81 years of age.
