Location: The official address for Valleystream Tennis Club and Park is 3412 Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario. This community park, known primarily as being the home of the tennis club, is located just to the east of the Bells Corners neighbourhood in western Ottawa. A sign for the Valleystream Tennis Club, and bearing the 3412 Richmond Road address, appears at the park’s main vehicular entrance near the western portion of its frontage onto Richmond Road. There is no sign advertising the park as such.
Description: Valleystream Tennis Club and Park is a long thin park, very roughly rectangular, oriented north-northwest to south-southeast, and stretching for nearly a kilometer along that longest dimension. The park’s two vehicular accesses, and the associated parking, lie along the Richmond Road frontage on the northwest. The eastern boundary of the park consists of fencing that separates it from the adjacent residential area; there is no public access from that side. The western boundary of the park is largely defined by John Sutherland Drive, which separates the park from the grounds of the neighbouring Queensway Carleton Hospital . On the south there is a short frontage onto Baseline Road. The southern three quarters of the park are undeveloped, without visitor facilities; the land consists primarily of a surface that is roughly mown a few times a year to prevent new trees from taking hold, a few unpaved mown paths through the area, and some clumps of trees. There is no parking for the park along its western and southern frontages, with the only entrances to the park from these sides consisting of unpaved, mown-grass paths, little used, and unmaintained in the winter. The western and southern boundaries do not provide any signage indicating the park’s existence.
Valleystream Tennis Club and Park serves primarily as the home for the Valleystream Tennis Club, but also contains some additional facilities. The tennis club, its clubhouse, and all of the park’s user facilities lie in the northern quarter of the park. Besides the club’s four fenced and lighted tennis courts, clubhouse and adjacent paved parking lot, there are a soccer field, with a second, unpaved, parking lot nearby, children’s swings and a playground structure, and a large open area, maintained as a lawn, adjacent to the soccer field.
