Location: The official address for Maki Park is 19 Leeming Drive, Ottawa, Ontario. This community park is located in the Crystal Beach neighbourhood of western Ottawa, generally to the south west of the larger Dick Bell Park. An official city park sign bearing the 19 Leeming Drive address appears at the park’s main entrance on the west side of the park. There is also a non-vehicular back entrance from Bedale Drive.
Description: Maki Park is irregularly shaped, and relatively small, less than 200 meters across its longest, north-south, dimension. At the time of the submission of this waymark, there is a proposal to re-purpose the grounds of the un-used school property that sits to the north of Maki Park, splitting that property, allocating part of it to extend Maki Pak, and developing the remainder for residential usage.
Despite its small size, Maki Park contains a number of facilities that make it valuable to the surrounding community. These include the Maki House community center, which provides a venue for a variety of local organizations from Scouts to martial arts and a pre-school program, a children’s playground with multiple play structures, a soccer field, a ball field, and, in season, a boarded ice rink suitable for hockey, as well as dressing rooms for these several activities, and benches and picnic tables. Maki Park includes some parking facilities.
Maki Park appears in the City of Ottawa's official database of municipal parks. It is searchable on Google Earth, and Google Maps, with several images of the park available via the latter’s Street View feature.
