The church was constructed at a cost of 2,559.59. The population of Heath in the 1830 census was 1199 people, of which the church had 316 members. In 1892 declining population caused the Baptist and Methodist churches to merge with the Congregational Church to form the Union Evangelical Church. In 1943 Reihold Niebur, spoke his famous prayer known as the serenity prayer from the pulpit in the church.
