Local boy Bill Mack, born Bill Smith, became internationally famous as WBAP-820 AM radio's "Midnight Cowboy," which ruled the overnight airwaves for decades. He is also a Grammy-award winning songwriter who has been inducted onto the Country Music Hall of Fame. Locally, folks in garland remember Bill Mack as the discoverer of our "local girl made good" LeeAnn Rimes.
Mama Blaster grew up listing to Bill Mack, and even met him several times. Mama Blaster's Dad worked at WBAP-TV Channel 5, and used to get pulled into the radio booth from the newsroom, especially during the Don Day Show, to chat and tell stories in the 1970s.
