In Newton, along Commonwealth Avenue, is the Newton City Hall, which has a fountain in front of the east entrance to the building.

Newton City Hall is located in a triangular plot of land bounded by Commonwealth Avenue, Homer Street, and Walnut Street. The driveway entrance is off either Commonwealth Avenue or Homer Street. You could also park in the Newton Free Library lot across Homer Street. The fountain is on the east side of the building (nearest Walnut Street).

The fountain is in the midst of a traffic island right in front of the entrance. Inside a skirting of grass is a wavy stone edge. Bushes and flowers are planted inside. The fountain is in the center. It is a circular structure with two bowls, one elevated and one about ground level. There is a bubbler at the center of the upper bowl.

There is a small plaque at ground level that states the following:

"In memory of
all city employees"

The city's web site has information about the fountain. In 1997, a committee was formed to explore a memorial to employees. Funding was raised and the planning and design was begun. On a summer day in 1998 at the annual employee memorial service, the fountain was dedicated. They are continuing to accept donations for the upkeep of the fountain.
