In Newton, along Commonwealth Avenue, is the Newton City Hall and Memorial building, which has a cornerstone with 1931 on it.

The building is located in a triangular plot of land bounded by Commonwealth Avenue, Homer Street, and Walnut Street. The building is easy to spot.

The building is brick and is 2 1/2 stories tall, with a peaked roof and two cupolas. The larger has clock faces below it. The cornerstone is located on the northwest side of the building, to the left of the west entrance to the building, about a foot from the ground, and behind some bushes. On the west face of the cornerstone, the date, "1931," appears. On the north face, the text, "Liberty**Union," appears.

The cornerstone may state 1931, but other plaques, including one on the east end of the building, date the building to 1932. I'm not sure of the discrepancy - it could be that 1932 was when the building was completed.
