Located between the Uihlein Administration Building and a small pond on the Eisenhower Medical Center campus is a rock sculpture of two human figures sitting and who appear to be in deep thought as they look across the pond in front of them. There is a small plaque near the sculpture that reads:
In Memory Of Our
Loving Grandson
Gabriel Adam Redstone
Madeline and Edward
Redstone
Although I could find nothing online regarding the artist behind this sculpture, I found a wealth of information on the family who dedicated it. Edward Redstone was the brother of Sumner Redstone, one of the richest men in the United States and majority owner of CBS Corporation and Viacom (itself the parent company of MTV Networks, BET, and the film studio Paramount Pictures). Edward passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 23, 2011 at the age of 83 at the Eisenhower Medical Center. He was a major benefactor of the Center over the years. His grandson, Gabriel, died tragically in an accident on May 24, 2004. The Redstone family as a whole has been involved in bitter financial disputes over the decades regarding shareholderships of National Amusements, Inc. (NAI), the company that was started by Edward and Sumner's father, 'Mickey' Redstone and for which has evolved over the years to become one of the top Forbes 400 companies.
