Avant l'érection canonique de la paroisse Saint-François-d'Assise, le 4 mars 1914, les fidèles fréquentaient une petite chapelle, modeste construction de bois, ouverte au culte en 1913. La chapelle est agrandie dès 1914, puis l'année suivante, on choisit un terrain pour la construction d'une église et on édifie aussitôt un presbytère.

En juin 1918, la fabrique fait déplacer la chapelle de bois afin d'élever sur son emplacement un nouveau lieu de culte, conçu par l'architecte Joseph-Siméon Bergeron. Le soubassement construit, la jeune paroisse doit attendre décembre 1925 pour recevoir l'autorisation de l'évêque de bâtir l'église haute. Les travaux commencent en mai 1926, selon les plans des architectes Bergeron, Lemay et Dumais. L'édifice est livré au culte en juillet 1927, mais l'intérieur reste inachevé. Ce sera de nouveau l'architecte Bergeron, seul cette fois, qui en surveillera l'aménagement en 1941-1942.

Pour ce projet, Bergeron s'inspire d'églises françaises réalisées par des disciples de Viollet-le-Duc, chef de file du mouvement rationaliste de l'architecture, en France, au cours de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. On peut, par exemple, souligner la parenté de l'église Saint-François-d'Assise avec celle de Saint-Étienne de Tours, construite entre 1869 et 1874 sur les plans des architectes Gustave et Charles-Victor Guérin. Tous ces bâtiments se distinguent par la présence d'un clocher-porche et des murs latéraux à deux étages qui évoquent l'architecture romane du Massif central et du sud-ouest de la France.

À l'intérieur, l'église Saint-François-d'Assise offre une architecture tout aussi intéressante. Réalisé tardivement (en 1942), l'étagement présente quelques similitudes avec Notre-Dame-de-la-Croix, église parisienne érigée entre 1863 et 1880 par Louis-Jean-Antoine Héret, lui-même inspiré par les monuments de l'âge roman. Le presbytère, qui date de 1915, a été vendu par la paroisse en 1989 et abrite actuellement un centre de formation.

Before the canonical erection of the parish of Saint-François-d'Assise , March 4, 1914 , the faithful attended a small chapel, a modest wooden building , opened for worship in 1913. Chapel was enlarged in 1914 and the year next we choose a land to build a church and immediately builds a rectory.

In June 1918 the fabrique moves the wooden chapel to raise its location on a new church , designed by architect Joseph Simeon Bergeron. The base constructed, the young parish must wait in December 1925 to receive permission from the bishop to build the upper church. Work began in May 1926, according to the plans of architects Bergeron, Lemay and Dumais. The building comes to worship in July 1927 , but the interior remains unfinished. This will again be architect Bergeron, only this time, which will monitor the development in 1941-1942 .

For this project, Bergeron was inspired by French churches conducted by disciples of Viollet-le-Duc, leader of the rationalist movement in architecture, in France, during the second half of the nineteenth century. One can, for example, emphasize the relationship of the church of Saint-François-D'Assise with Saint-Étienne de Tours, built between 1869 and 1874 on the plans of architects Gustave and Charles-Victor Guérin. All these buildings are distinguished by the presence of a bell tower and side walls of two floors evoke the Romanesque architecture of the Massif Central and south-western France.

Inside, the Saint-François-D'Assise church offers an equally interesting architecture. Belatedly realized ( in 1942 ), the staging has some similarities with Notre-Dame-de-la-Croix, Parisian church built between 1863 and 1880 by Louis-Jean-Antoine Héret, itself inspired by the monuments of the roman age. The rectory, which dates from 1915, was sold by the parish in 1989 and currently houses a training center.
