There are many dated building in the main street of Lithgow which is an industrial city that enjoyed considerable growth in the late nineteenth, early twentieth centuries with the extension of the railway over the Blue Mountains & the discovery of vast coal deposits.
The vacant shop is a pointer to a general decline in the area with the Wallerawang Power Station closed recently due to a reduction in electricity demand & larger coal mines opening in areas close to the eastern seaboard.
