In summer of 2013, after more than 100 years a bronze replica of the stone statue of St. Nicholas, patron of merchants, children and also Nový Jicín, has been returned to the square. Its author is sculptor Jirí Finger. The statue of St. Nicholas holds a bible in his left hand, tilting it towards a bowl full of pure water and apples have rolled in all directions around the fountain. The legend of St. Nicholas mentions three bags of gold coins, which St. Nicholas threw into the open window of an indebted merchant, saving his three daughters from being sold into slavery. These three bags of gold are symbolised by the larger-than-life bronze apples.
