Thomas Sutton was the son-in-law of George Sheppeard, a local toll-house keeper, butcher and baker who owned a large killing works on the outskirts of Lithgow. George Sheppeard died in 1881 & his son Andrew drowned soon after. The home & businesses passed to Thomas Sutton and his wife Amelia and it is as Sutton's butchery that the family business flourished with this prominent shop in Lithgow's Main Street a testament to their business acumen.
