The Le Dénicheur d'oursons is an amazing sculpture by Emmanuel Frémiet depicting a confrontation between a bear and a hunter. The sculpture tells the story of a hunter who killed a bear cub, then the mother bear attacks the hunter. During the struggle, the hunter plunges a knife into the shoulder of the bear, but it seems to be a losing battle, as the bear is mauling the hunter with claws and teeth.
Emmanuel Frémiet was born December 6, 1824 and died September 10, 1910. He was well known for wild animal and Napoleonic sculptures, including a statue of Joan of Arc.
The Le Dénicheur d'oursons translates at "The Bear cub thief." It is located in the Jardin des Plantes, Paris, France.
