Tarana Railway Station is no longer manned so you need to make prior arrangements with the booking office to be picked up or dropped off. The XPT (High speed passenger train) services the station.
The station has been restored to its original condition due in particular to its heritage significance. Steam train era objects such as the water tank, feeder hose & even a platform light remain. The Environment & Heritage Office (NSW) (
visit link) state:
The structures form a large group indicating the form of the site following duplication during 1916. It is largely intact, the only significant element missing being the goods shed. It contains a fine example of a station/residence in combination with a range of interesting supportive structures.
The station group forms one of the best station complexes surviving from the early period of railway construction.
You can walk on the platform & near the residence but all doors are locked.
