Low Wood Farm still exists, but is much altered from its ivy clad appearance in the painting. The road to the side of the cottage has moved, allowing the garden to be extended outwards. The building has also been extended to the right. The typical Lakeland round chimney still remains, although now obscured by a tree in the front garden.
Heaton Cooper was born in Manchester and studied art under George Clausen. His painting took him to Yorkshire, Morocco and Norway. Whilst in Norway he married Mathilde. Unable to earn a living in Norway he returned to Bolton, and later the Lake District. In the Lake District he established himself as one of the dominant Lakes artists. He established an art studio and shop, which still exhibits and sells prints of his works.
