The village of Cullen Bullen developed in the 1840's as a stopping place on the road to Mudgee. The discovery of gold at Hill End and Sofala saw traffic grow & the need for somewhere to stay, have a meal & a drink saw the opening of the hotel.
Now-a-days the village relies on a nearby power station for employment. The hotel is only open from 2 pm Monday & Tuesday & from 11 am other days. It has a general store & Post Office in addition to the bar area.
