Constructed of brick and Montana granite in 1913, the Granite County Courthouse was designed by architects Haire & Link and Co. It stands above downtown Philipsburg, overlooking the town.

At the main entrance to the courthouse there are two bronze plaques; one is the date plaque for the courthouse while the other is a memorial to Charlotte (Lottie) Thomson Irvine, a long time employee of Granite County Schools. For much of the time she was in their employ she was the superintendent of schools.
