The townsite was once an important stop on the Trans Australia Railway as a watering stop for the steam engines with water coming from the nearby man-made Lake Leschenaultia.
The Chidlow LPO is located in the local newsagents and offers a reasonably wide range of services and is open Monday to Friday 0900 to 1700 and Saturday 0730 to 1630
