Monument of the 4th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 72
At 10 a.m. the Austrian Fleischacker's Brigade (Infantry Regiments No. 6 and No. 61, the Jager Battalion No. J3 and No. 2 of the 4th Battery Artillery Regiment), attacked against the southern edge of the forest. However it was repelled and it retreated to Cisteves, where it remained until the retreat of the Austrian troops from Svib. Shortly after it the Poeckh's Brigade was deployed in the battle (Infantry Regiments No. 37 and No. 51, the Jager Battalion No. 8 and No. 3 of the 4th Battery Artillery Regiment). Its first wave of assault was voluntarily joined by two stranded Battalions of the VIII. Corps, which marched - as ordered - from Horineves to Probluz to secure a part of the left flank.
The brigade proceeded triumphantly and swept the Prussian troops away. The brigade occupied the highest point of the forest terrain and advanced further to its western edge. However an unexpected invasion by two battalions of the 8th Prussian Infantry Division of Lieutenant General von Horn to the left side and to the rear of Peck's brigade changed the situation. The so far victorious advancing brigade was scattered and fell into a critical position. Most of its units managed to break out from the forest at the cost of large losses and assembled at Maslojedy.
