The monument to the Austrian 1st Army Corps (Eagle).
Some tens meters behind the road, connecting Chlum with the I class road Hradec Kralove - Jicin, before the hillside top of Rozberice there is a memorial to the Austrian 1st Army Corps (No 296). It marks the place, that troops of the Imperial and Royal 1st Army Corps reached marching from Rozberice and Hejcmanka trying to get Chlum from the enemy again.
On the top of the monumental obelisk made from gray Mauthausen granite there is a bronze eagle sculpture. The monument decorated with bronze military emblems, donated by Viennese Oberbaurat (head architectural counselor) Paul Noble Wasserburger, was unveiled on October 11, 1896.
After a vain endeavour of the Austrian 6th Corps to regain the lost key position in the middle of the battle line the 1st Corps took courage to attack Chlum and Rozberice. The Poschacher Brigade advanced against Rozberice that was retaken by the Prussian Guard. The Ringelsheim and Leiningen Brigades and the voluntarily joined Knebel Brigade of the 10th Corps attacked Chlum. From here the Prussian Guards together with the I Prussian. Corps were operating against them, while the 11th Prussian Division already advanced on the hill near Rozberice. During the twenty minute storm and following retreat the 1st Austrian Corps lost here 279 officers, General Poschacher was also among them, more than ten thousand men and 23 guns.
