Trooper David Irvine Rucker was shot and killed while making a traffic stop. Shorty after he was murdered, Patrolman Enrique Carrisalez stopped the same man, not knowing he had shot and killed Trooper Rucker, and was shot and killed as he exited his patrol car. A doctor found the body of Trooper Rucker laid out in the traffic lane; he was holding the identification of the man wanted in the connection of both murders. Trooper Rucker had never radioed in the stop.
This simple stone marker is on the roadside where he was killed.
~ The marker is engraved: ~
We the people of the State of Texas acknowledge and thank Trooper David Irvine Rucker for the great sacrifice he made to keep the public safe. His efforts will stand the test of time, May God bless his soul.
