This small town has had its share of military heroes. And it was Vietnam, I was told by the local antique store owner, that was the final push to get the town moving and honor their own.
Families here were serving, not on bricks, but in real wars.
i.e. the Zerr family had 6 members serve (George S: Tech 4 US Army, 43-46 ~ Tony Spec 4 US Army, 69-71 ~ George jr.: SSgt US Army, 86-07 ~ John: Spec 4 US Army 73-79 & Sgt AZ Nat.Guard 82-92 ~ Benny SG/M US Army, 78-05 ~ Donna: Sgt US Army, 75-79) and, of course, the Breshears.
They were in World War II and, well, one received 6 Bronze Stars,,,,SIX.
TSgt Kenneth Breshears

PFC Wm. Clarence Breshears

The bricks were to provide additional income for the project and to provide the locals was a sense of participation.
