Location: Donoghue Memorial Park is located at 29 Larkspur Drive, in the Bells Corners neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario. Located in the northeast portion of Bells Corners, it is bordered by and accessed from Larkspur Drive on the northwest, Foothills Drive on the northeast, the end of Stinson Avenue on the southwest, and Bell High School on the southeast. Bells Corners is a small community, formerly part of the City of Nepean before Nepean was annexed by the City of Ottawa; it is entirely surrounded by the City of Ottawa's Greenbelt. Prior to a name change in the spring of 2012, Donoghue Memorial Park was known as Hillside Park, with the park itself dating back to the 1960s.

Description: Roughly 100 meters across, Donoghue Memorial Park is primarily a local playground park for Bells Corners, particularly appropriate in that, professionally, Barry Donoghue, to whom the park is a memorial, was a playground developer. The park offers a pleasant mix of playground equipment, swings, a checkers/chess table, and benches on the lower level, with an open lawn on the upper level. Landscaping and gardens make it an attractive spot. Besides the playground structures, the park contains several paved, winter-maintained, pedestrian/bicycle paths that provide valuable connections among local streets and Bell High School. In the absence of these paths, travel times and distances would increase substantially. In terms of terrain, as suggested by its previous name, Hillside Park, Donoghue Memorial Park is built on a hillside with sufficient slope that building streets to permit vehicular traffic connections would be problematic.

Barry Donoghue was the owner of Playground Planners. He had a long history of service to the local community, including work on school and church councils, and ongoing support for the CNIB, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Cleaning the Capital initiative, as well as working for and with local service groups.
