While on a driving trip from Durban to Pretoria, I wanted to visit Lesotho, even if very briefly. Formerly Basutoland, the name Lesotho translates roughly into "the land of the people who speak Sotho". Lesotho is also known as the Kingdom in the Sky. This road rises up into the Drakensberg Mountains and is very scenic.
Even though 4x4 is suggested, the dirt road was in good shape when we went. The border station was a shack with one guard. Not too far up the road is a rest station and a small gift shop with local hand made crafts. We visited some of the local people and their houses further on.
