Cozy Corner is an unheralded barbecue joint that simply does not get the amount of press received by the likes of Corky's, Rendezvous, Central BBQ, and Interstate Barbecue. They are certainly deserving, and they were featured on Prime Time Live some years ago. They're a small, non-pretentious little place in the shadow of St. Jude's, near downtown Memphis. Ordering is done at the counter, and while ribs are king in Memphis, they also serve up wings, sliced brisket, hot dogs, chicken, bologna, cornish hen, and barbecue spaghetti. You read it right on those last three. One can also order sandwiches of bologna, sliced pork, sliced brisket, beef sausage, turkey, or even barbecued hamburger. Sides are barbecue spaghetti, chips, corn on the cob, corn, or the old stand-bys, beans, slaw, and potato salad. Soft drinks and tea (sweetened and unsweetened) are available, no alcohol. Take out is as common here as is dining in, but there is plenty of seating. Service is wonderful, as they'll keep checking in on you to make certain you're OK, and be careful they don't talk you into dessert: Pie, Memphis Mudd, or banana pudding.

Those on the cheap should stick with one of the sandwiches, although a hot dog is a buck and a half, and while there's no pig-out meal, meats may be ordered by the pound. Have at it!

One cautionary note: If you request "dry" ribs, expecting the dry rub that's popular in Memphis, you'll be disappointed, as your ribs will be served up without any sauce instead. They're a straight "wet" establishment here, and there are a few types of sauce (regular and spicy) if your ribs aren't to your taste.
