The Black Adder is set in medieval England and turns conventional history on its head. At the Battle of Bosworth Richard III actually wins the battle. Unfortunately, Richard is killed by Lord Edmund Plantagenet when he mistakes him for a thief, when Richard takes his horse, believing it to be a stray. Richard III’s nephew, and Lord Edmund’s father, is crowned Richard IV.
Lord Edmund is a dreamer that likes to be known as the Black Adder. His father won’t give Edmund the time of day. The series follows the reign of Richard IV, which ends when the whole family is poisoned and Henry VII assumes the throne. Henry then rewrites history into the form that we all know today.
