This Sandcastle was conceived and carved by island artist Andy Hancock. It took about 550 hours and is made completely from approximately 60 tons of river sand. The wires coming out of the top are just to keep the birds off. River sand has a higher clay content and is stronger once packed than beach sand.
The size is 15 ft. high, 22 ft. wide and 11 ft deep.
It is sprayed with a coating of diluted Elmer's Glue to form a weatherproof shell on the outside. It is NOT held up by the glue.
