This statue of Mary, mother of Jesus, stands on the Ziemer headstone in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery on the west side of Evansville, IN. The statue formerly was about the main entrance at Assumption Cathedral before it was razed in 1965.
The statue is very near the roadway in the cemetery and sits towards the middle of a hill that leads to the largest family plots in the entire cemetery.
There is a small plaque under the statue that reads:
"ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Originally located in a niche above the main
entrance of the 1872 Assumption Church, later
Assumption Cathedral, which was razed in 1965."
