Obec Semily byla založena asi kolem r. 1300. Nejpozdeji v 16. století se má status mestecka. Kdy získalo znak, není známo, podle pecetí to bylo pravdepodobne v 16. století.

Semily village was founded around the year 1300. Not later than in the 16th century it recived the status of the town. When it has received CoA is not known, according to seal it was probably in the 16th century.
