The clock is fixed to the front of the building by a decorative wrought iron bracket painted black. The clock has two faces and is visible up and down the street. The case is oval in shape with the longest plane being horixontal.

The face has a translucent white background that allows the clock to be back-lit and therefore visible at night. There are no minute marks on the face and the hour marks, black in colour, are Roman numerals for a clockface. Normally, with Roman numerals the letter "I" is used for a one but this face has the number "1" for the "I"'s. The hands are simple shapes and have short tails. The minute hand is thinner than the hour hand and both are coloured black. "Sotheran's" name is on the face with the letter "h" having an elaborate swirl on the upstroke. The swirl may form a "B", laid backwards, for books.
