Located within the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum are a number of exact replicas of buildings and other structures that had a connection to Richard Nixon. This particular replica is an Apollo 16 space suit that was worn during space missions under Nixon's presidency. There is a placard near the replica that reads:
Apollo 16
EMU Space Suit (reproduction)
"This Apollo era EMU (extravehicular mobility unit) suit resembles the one worn by Apollo 17 Astronaut and Geologist Harrison Schmitt in this December 13, 1972 photograph. This suit, which was used during the last three Apollo mission, was quite different than those used during the first Apollo missions. Unlike earlier version, this EMU allowed astronauts to sit and drive the LRV (Lunar Roving Vehicle) and it could be removed so they could more easily sleep while on the lunar surface. Also, the EVA (extravehicular activity) backpacks were modified to carry more oxygen, power, and cooling water for much longer EVAs. With these improvements, the astronauts of Apollo 15, 16, and 17 stayed much longer--over two days more than Apollo 11--and, with the help of the LRV, explored much more of the lunar surface. The red stripes indicate that this EMU was worn by the Mission Commander."
There are many other exact replicas located throughout this library and museum, many have yet to be waymarked, so look for them!
