A small stone plaque inset into the tower tells us:
Christ Church
Consecrated
July 27th 1850

May 17th 1942
The congregation must have grown as a cornerstone tells of the church being enlarged in 1869. It reads:
This corner stone

as a memorial of the
enlargement of this church

The tower is Grade II listed with the entry at the English Heritage website telling us:
Built 1850-1 by Sydney Smith. Only the tower now remains, the rest of the church having been hit by a bomb during the Second World War. 4 stages. Built of stone rubble. Buttresses. Crockets and stone gargoyles to parapet.
