This small medieval house in a hidden side alley in the historic center of northern Basel dates back to the 11th century. In the late 20th century it was the studio of artist Rolf Rappaz, where he worked until his death in 1996. In 2008 the site was converted into an art museum.

Rolf Rappaz (1914-1996) was a Swiss graphic designer and artist. He was well-known and had strong influence on the development of Swiss graphic art in the mid-20th century. In the 1960s he gave up his career as a commercial artist and concentrated on his free art.
