The site has been an hotel since 1847.It was first known as the Commercial Hotel, then Romayne's Hotel and finally, in 1881 with the opening of the Perth to Guildford railway it was named the Railway Hotel.
The facade was built in 1906 by R.A.Dixon to a design by architects Porter and Thomas and is an example of the federation free classical style and one of the few remaining in Perth
