The parish for St. James Episcopal Church, the Shelburne parish was established in 1770. The present church building was constructed beginning in 1885 with the first services held in 1887. The church is constructed of rough-cut stone and is in Romanesque Revival style. The church features an asymmetrical facade with a projecting tower with a massive Serlian-arched entry set in its base and a tripartite window with round-arched openings. Over the years the church has had a few different additions. In 1929 the church was damaged significantly in a fire, the church was restored to its current configuration. The church continues serve its active parish and has three services each Sunday.
