1951:Hank Ketcham's best-selling comic strip Dennis the Menace appeared in newspapers across the U.S. for the first time.
1961: CTV, Canada's second major television network, begins broadcasting.
1971: Apollo program: Apollo 14 (carrying astronauts Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell) lifts off on the third successful lunar landing mission.
1981:Gasoline and diesel are sold by the litre rather than the gallon.
1988:The Morris worm, the first computer worm distributed via the Internet, written by Robert Tappan Morris, is launched from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the U.S.
