Udon Thani was one of the most important USAF air bases in Thailand during the Vietnam War and it's still an air base for the Thai Air Force, which operates a squadron of Alpha Jet airplanes from there. However it's better known for being a low cost airport, used mostly by Air Asia, serving, indirectly, the capital of Laos, Vientiene.
It's a small airport, with a single terminal, and a commercial gallery with several restaurants and shops, including one Dairy Queen.
