For a long time this was the main airport in Bangkok and in Thailand, although it was replaced by the more recent airport Suvarnabhumi.

Even if it was replaced as the "king" airport in Thailand, Don Mueang is still a "lord". It's a big airport, with a terminal built in 4 different floors. Plenty of commerce of all sorts there. Possible to sleep on the premises as the terminal is always open to the public. For such purpose, the so called "observation deck". Quiet, dark and safe.
