Located in the City Cemetery along Highway 65,just west of downtown Lake Providence, the memorial stands in a city involved in Grant's campaign against Vicksburg in 1862-1863.

The simple monument is topped by a soldier standing at rest with his rifle. The statue faces northward, towards the lake. On the north face is inscribed "To Our Confederate Soldiers"

On the south face is inscribed "Edward Sparrow Chapter U.D.C." to commemorate the group erecting the monument.

The city's monument is in addition to the one in the parish seat for East Carroll parish in Tallulah on the courthouse grounds.
