In 1861 the Reverend Charles Harper was ordained and was given twenty-five pounds (50 dollars) to build a church in Toodyay. It was subsequently built by a local builder and former convict, George Henry Hasell. In May 1862 Bishop Hale, the first Bishop of Perth, consecrated the church.
The Church was built in the restrained red brick Gothic style with high pitched corrugated iron roof and pointed arched window and door surrounds. Tall lancet windows to the north and south elevations, buttresses divide the north and south facades into evenly spaced bays each with it's own tall lancet window. The original pews are still in use
