Playa de Poniente is the most well-known and representative beach of Motril and the busiest in summer.

Poniente beach is 2230 m long by 120 m wide with black volcanic sand and pebbles. It is easily accessed and features a children's playground and a long promenade lined with bars, shops and restaurants. It has all the usual services and is suitable for playing different sports. There is a sailing club and facilities for taking sailing courses.
We were there in March while the beach area was very quiet. We enjoyed walking on the promenade and using some of the outdoor exercise stations.
