Obituary:
NORTHWEST DEAD - William G. Westacott, Well-Known Salem Restaurateur SALEM, Or., March 28
William G. Westacott, for many years proprietor of Strong's restaurant in this city, died suddenly this afternoon. He had been ill for more than a year, but his death at this time was unexpected. The immediate cause of his death is supposed to be Bright's disease.
Mr. Westacott was born in Salem, August 26, 1855, and has always made this his home. He was educated in the public schools and at Willamette University, from which institution he was graduated. He served as a bookkeeper at the State Penitentiary under Superintendent Watkins, and filled a similar position at the asylum under the administrations of Drs. Lane and Josephi. In 1899 he bought Strong's restaurant in this city and conducted the business with great financial success until his health failed.
Mr. Westacott was married in 1886 to Miss Lena Stolz, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Stolz, of this city. His wife survives him. At the age of 21, Mr. Westacott became a member of the order of Odd Fellows, and has always been an earnest worker in the affairs of that order. He was a charter ember of the Salem Lodge of Elks, and was a member of the Woodmen of America, the Artisans and the Fraternal Union of America. He stood high in Salem's business and social circles and his death is deeply mourned by the entire community.
The funeral will be conducted from the First Methodist Church at 2 P. M. Tuesday. The services at the church will be under the auspices of the Episcopal Church, after which the remains will be given burial by Olive Lodge, No. 18, I. O. O. F. Other lodges of which he was a member will be represented by pallbearers. -The Oregonian, March 29, 1903
