This temple, officially named Wat Traimit Withayaram Worawihan, hosts the Golden Buddha as well as a museum dedicated to this notable statue.
The Golden Buddha, by then completely disguised, was located in Wat Phraya Krai, but as this temple became dilapidated the King Rama V(1868-1910) shut it down and thestatue was moved to Wat Traimit.
Actually the abbot of Wat Traimit didn't want it and asked monasteries for a possible transfer. Nobody was interested... if only they knew it... finally the abbot decided to keep the statue in his own temple and built a special vihara to house it.
Then, when the statue was being moved it was accidentally dropped and the stucco cracked, revealing the shining gold inside. What a surprise!
Opening Hours: 09:00 - 17:00
Location: Traimit Road (west of Hua Lampong Station), at the very beginning of Chinatown
Tickets: To see just the Golden Buddha is 40 Baht. Access to the museum costs an additional 100 Baht.
